Call 2 Fall

C2F Journey: Day 28

God's special words to children and youth - Ephesians 6:1-3 - "Children, obey your parents in the Lord. For this is right. Honor Your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth."

Old Testament law pronounced severe punishment on children who cursed or dishonored a parent. Modem children must relearn the extreme importance of honoring their parents. Today's foolish and wicked society has completely reversed the principle of honoring one's parents.

Questions for Reflection: Children or teenagers, do you disobey your parents? Do you often ignore their guidance? Have you treated your parents with disrespect or anger? Disrespect toward parents is a very serious sin before God. Young people, you cannot be right with God if you consistently disrespect your parents. As adults, we too must ask whether we are honoring our elderly parents. Do you neglect to call and visit your aged parents? Do you neglect your Mother and Father by failing to give them consistent time and attention? Are you neglecting them emotionally or financially? Do you fail to help them with needs around their home? Are there unresolved harsh words or feelings between you and your parents? Have you truly sought to make it right? Remember, no one who mistreats or neglects a parent can be fully right with God!

Personal Reflection

Sins of Relationships

  1. Go back and review the specific Scriptures through which God brought conviction. What relationships need to change? What changes are you prepared to make? List the specific needs below.
  2. How do relationship sins affect your walk with God? How do they affect your family? Your church? Be specific.
  3. What specific changes are you prepared to make in your relationships? List the first steps below.

While we who are children confess and repent of our sins of disobedience and dishonor toward our parents, let us rejoice in God's full acceptance as our full time Father (Romans 8:1; 1 John 1:9).   His mercy is higher than the heavens!
