Call 2 Fall

C2F Journey: Day 34

Leviticus 19:31 - "Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God."

The Bible leaves no doubt that God hates the use of witchcraft, astrology or spiritual mediums (psychics). Yet today, we have witnessed a worldwide explosion of just such wickedness. In recent years, the world has seen an unprecedented rise in astrologers and psychic mediums. Much of this activity goes under the general term "new ageism." Though it is called new, there is nothing new about it. It's simply the age-old practices of the occult.

Tragically, some believers have begun to dabble in what they consider harmless fun or self-improvement. New Ageism promotes the deification of man and many self-help books contain significant elements of such philosophy. For the believer, such practices are nothing less than spiritual adultery.

When we consult the stars or psychics for guidance, we reject God's guidance and open ourselves to the direct influence of Satan. God has given a very clear pattern for receiving His guidance. That pattern is to seek God's face through personal Bible study and prayer. Put simply, no believer should have anything to do with astrology, crystals, psychics or any other form of new age practice! (Parents, we must also guard our children from cartoons that are now rife with occultic, new age influence.)

Questions for Reflection: Do you ever consult horoscopes, psychics or any other form of occultic guidance? Have you allowed new age philosophy to slip into your mind by reading self-help books that exalt self rather than Christ? Do you read materials that promote self-exaltation rather than humble surrender to Jesus Christ? Do you have books in your home that promote humanism or new age philosophy? Do you allow your children to watch programs that promote new age ideas?

If God convicts you of any occultic, new age or humanistic involvement, confess and renounce these serious sins. Take specific steps to get these influences out of your home and heart. To do anything less is to open the door to satanic attack upon your entire household.

As we confess and forsake any and all involvement with cults and the occult, no matter how innocent or casual, let us rejoice in God's full acceptance, just as throughout Scripture, he fully received those who put away their false gods.  (Romans 8:1; 1 John 1:9)  His mercy is higher than the heavens!
