Ephesians 4:29 - "Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth."
Ephesians 5:4 - "Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, not jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks."
Questions for Reflection: Do you ever speak slang words that are crude and inappropriate? Do you use God's name in any way other than worship, honor and praise? Have you engaged in off color jokes or conversation? Has the filthiness of our society crept into your speech? Do you use any slang to add emphasis to what you're saying? In Matthew 5:37, Jesus clearly stated the use of slang is wrong. Honestly examine your speech and ask God for His forgiveness. Be specific in your confession of improper speech. Fully surrender your speech to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
As we confess and forsake impure speech, crude conversation and improper humor, let us ever place our sole trust in Him Who is Holy, the "author and finisher of our faith." (Hebrews 12:2)
Colossians 3:9 - "Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds."
Questions for Reflection: Do you ever lie? Do you exaggerate to make yourself look better? Are you guilty of any form of cheating? Do you mislead people or institutions? Are you careful to follow through with promises, vows and commitments you make to God and others? Is your word your bond or are you somewhat unreliable? Do you frequently fall short in things you said you would do? If so, this reveals an integrity problem. God hates lying and inconsistency. Fully confess and renounce any patterns of untruthfulness or unreliability.
As we confess and forsake every instance and attitude of dishonesty, let us rejoice in God's honesty with us in his promise of full acceptance, by faith (Romans 8:1; 1 John 1:9). His mercy is higher than the heavens!
